School Spirit - Wacky Tacky Day: Wed. Nov 22
We are all thankful for something! Let’s focus on the gifts we give and receive!
Come dressed in your wackiest tackiest fashion!!!
WE ARE COMMITTED TO A POSITIVE SCHOOL COMMUNITY!
Damaris Carrion is PS 191’s Parent Coordinator. The Parent Coordinator works to engage and involve parents within the school community, along with the school administration, the staff, the Parents Association and community groups. You may visit your Parent Coordinator with any questions or concerns in the main office. She can also be reached by calling the school’s main number or you can e-mail her at DCarrion@schools.nyc.gov
Upcoming school wide information may be found on all bulletin boards on the ground floor. A weekly news blast is emailed to parents every Friday with the upcoming week’s information. Please make sure that I have your email address to ensure that you receive the most up to date information. You may also contact me through email at email@example.com. Information may also be sent to you through our School Messenger System. This system will call homes with a pre-recorded message or reminder. As we all know, successful communication between the home and school is a vital part of your child’s school experience.
Moving into the 2017-18 school year we will not have a uniform policy.
In order to provide an environment conducive to promoting educational excellence with minimum distractions and disruptions of the learning environment, we expect you and your child’s cooperation in complying with the following dress code. All students, both male and female, are expected to dress appropriately for school and school functions. A student’s dress, grooming, and appearance, including hair style/color, jewelry, make-up and nails, shall:
Students who violate the dress code shall be required to modify their appearance by covering or removing the offending item, or, if necessary or practical, replacing it with an acceptable item. Any student who refuses to cooperate may face disciplinary action in alignment to the NYCDOE Code of Discipline. We ask that you please respect and abide by our dress code.
The Riverside Cafe provides parents an opportunity to learn and inquire about our school, and get up-to-date news about upcoming happenings, events, workshops, and voice their ideas and opinions. It is the venue for our parent/family community members to congregate and get to know each other. They are held on the second Friday of every month from 8:30-9:30am and located in the Family Room.
We offer many opportunities for our students after school hours:
Students will have the opportunity to check their cell phone in at the beginning of the day. If a cell phone is out or heard and a staff member confiscates it, it will be returned at the end of the day. However, if the student refuses to turn in the cell phone or argues with the staff member, administration will step in and the phone will be confiscated by administration and will only be returned to the parent or guardian. This policy is in place to ensure that our students are focused on their studies, and not on their cell phones. If your child needs to reach you or you need to reach your child, the school phones must be used.
